Last year, a pug ran away from home, and the local police department came up with a hilarious way to help find its owners. The Cape May, New Jersey police posted a mugshot of the dog on Facebook.
The clever police officers of the Cape May Police Department had a bit of fun constructing a Facebook post. Alongside the funny mugshot, the officers wrote a caption stating this is what happens when you run away. Here is the picture that went instantly viral:
The police used the hashtag #pugmug and went on to say the sneaky character was captured while poking around neighborhood yards.
It didn’t take long for the mugshot post to receive millions of likes and comments. A neighbor saw the post and immediately recognized the pug as Bean, the pug. Bean’s owner, Hadley Hubbard, was contacted. As it turns out, Hadley lives in Baltimore, Maryland, which is about a hundred and fifty miles away from Cape May, New Jersey.
After Hadley was contacted, she immediately left for Cape May. The police then posted an update on Facebook saying the dog’s owner had been found, and they were releasing the pug on bail. Lots of people responded with witty puns about the new picture. Too funny!
Hadley arrived at the police station and joined in on the fun. She spoke to the “arresting” officer, Patrolman Michael LeSage, and paid Bean’s “bail” in the form of cookies. With puns like “pug life” and “pugnacious,” the commenters were having just as much fun with it as Bean’s owner and the officers.
No one is sure how the Baltimore pug ended up roaming the streets of Cape May last year. But luckily, Bean is now back home in Maryland with Hadley. The pug is now famous for being the “thug pug” with a mugshot! We hope Bean stays on his leash from now on.
